FREE Bionics Inc. founder and CEO Wu Cheng-Hua accepted the “Wa-People” editor in chief Wang Li-Juan’s interview. With the mobile assisted Exoskeleton, Wu Cheng-Hua envisioned the future where our disabled friends can stand up and walk with the crowd with his mobile assisting exoskeleton.。
FREE Bionics Inc. founder and CEO Wu Cheng-Hua with a degree from the Department of Power Mechanical Engineering, Tsinghua University, was employed at the Mechanical & Mechatronics Systems Research Laboratories at ITRI, Industrial Technology Research Institute for many years. Colleagues have nicknamed him “Huazi”. He and the team at ITRI invested in robot development for many years; one of their developed security robot technology was transferred to Taiwan's two major security firms. Furthermore, their companion robots technology has also been transferred outside of ITRI to Compel Communications, Inc.
In 2012 when Wu Cheng-Hua and the team received the assistive robotics development plan from DOIT, Ministry of Economic, they were developing autonomous carrying vehicles. In the face of the added task at such a short notice, Wu Cheng-Hua divided the team into two, moving half of the manpower to focus on this new task.
Wu Cheng-Hua and the team’s achievements with this project, through the media reports, received a lot of positive responses from the community. Wu Cheng-Hua personally received a lot of phone calls inquiring “When can I buy this power assisted exoskeleton?” He realized that behind every call, there was a touching story, which further strengthen his dedication on this project. Wu Cheng-Hua however, told us that he regrets his grandmother passed away before she could benefit from the mobile assisting exoskeleton he and the team developed. During the interview, Wu Cheng-Hua can’t help it but have tears welled up in his eyes.
Technical strength coupled with caring hearts in developing new products, led Wu Cheng-Hua and the team to receive funding from the Wistron Corporation early this year (2017) and officially founded FREE Bionics Inc. Furthermore, in early August 2017, FREE Bionics Inc. signed a contract with USCI, Japan's largest medical device distributor, to promote products to more than ten major hospitals in Japan. Wu Cheng-Hua believes that with his leadership, FREE Bionics Inc. will become a world leader in the paraplegia special mobility aids robots before the end of 2019.
